End leaves are a little darkened. Volume remains tight and contents are very clean. lovely plates!!!

Light coloured spotting to fore-edges of text block and to title page o/w. contents beautifully clean and in fine condition. This work was originally released in 6 parts between June 1902 and October 1903. The front covers of each of these parts have been bound in to the rear of this volume. Bound in more recent red cloth (to closely resemble the Publisher's original binding) with gilt lettering to spine all in fine condition. Comes with an original copy of R.H. Porter's (loosely inserted) advertisement for the work. Also comes with an original advert for H.E. Rogers' 'Liverpool Zoological Park' in which they advertise (with prices) aviary moulted birds for sale incl. Macaws, Parrots, Turacos, Parrakeets, Weavers, Budgerigars and more. David Seth Smith's work on parrots and parakeets was one of the last fine bird books illustrated with hand coloured lithographs. Artists included Gronvold and Frohawk. The lithographs were printed by Mintern Brothers (famous for printing many of John Gould's bird prints) and Bale & Danielson, then coloured by hand.

The plates were first published in the Aviculture Magazine. David Seth-smith was curator of birds at London Zoo at the turn of the twentieth century. He was also the foundation editor of The Avicultural Magazine. He visited Australia twice and befriended, among others, A. J. Campbell.

Despite the title the contents include Lories and Lorrikeets and Conures.
