"The facts this little book contains the author had from the lips of John Winzer himself." North Devon in the early 19th Century was a miserably superstitious and poorly educated rural community, in contrast with its natural beauty. Here John Winzer (1788-1868) was born, born again and became one of the despised 'Anabaptists'. Not a preacher, but an earnest prayerful farmer, he was central to the work of God in the area which brought spiritual light and led to the establishment of several chapels.
