Gilt morocco label 'Sandys' to backstrip, and stamped impression of a similar title label, no longer present. Front hinge externally cracked, both hinges repaired with cloth tape internally. Book-block and binding firm. Nineteenth century shop sticker of Ebenezer Palmer remounted to front endpaper. A few pen marks to title page, some light wear, creasing and foxing internally, not affecting legibility. Each section with its own title page, expanded as follows in the case of the Psalms: 'Set to New Tunes for Private Devotion: And a Thorough-Base, for Voice or Instrument. By Henry Lawes, Gentleman of His Majesties Chappel Royal. And in this Edition carefully Revised and Corrected from many Errors which passed in former Impressions, by John Playford.' The Lawes psalm tunes with bass are printed alongside the text by use of moveable type.
