Inserted between several foreign-language pamphlets regarding treaties between Switzerland and countries like Denmark, France, Germany, and Great Britain is a three-page autograph letter (May 15, 1876) to Fish from his noted colleague Alfred Claparède. Considered the first Swiss professional diplomat, Claparède (1842-1922) worked closely with Fish in Berlin and later served as the charge d'affaires in Vienna and the Swiss Minister in Washington. A diplomatic treasure trove with a distinguished provenance.
