Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. (no dust jacket) [a good sound copy with moderate shelfwear, slight bumping to several corners, a couple of tiny white marks near bottom of front cover, a few little white flecks on rear cover]. Novel about an ex-convict, released from prison after he is proven to be innocent of the crime for which he was convicted. His three years of incarceration, however, has turned him into "psychologically a criminal, embittered and determined to revenge himself on the man who he felt was responsible for his misfortune" (quoting from a contemporary review of the book). Cohen was so well known at the time for his dialect tales of southern African-American life that one reviewer felt compelled to point out that this was "a novel of white people.".
