Condition: Good. 1st edition. Cloth, G. 208pp, b/w illustrations, cheap paper rather tanned, head & tail of the spine worn, Ex Cruising Association Library copy with their bookplate & gilt stamp to the upper cover, a fair copy. A collection of humorous short stories, some with a nautical aspect. Alfred Walter Barrett [ 1869 - c1933 ] journalist & author who published many books using the pseudonym R Andom. He was taken to court in June 1921 and found guilty of conspiring to corrupt public morals - he had published a lonely hearts magazine intended to allow lonely peiple find friendship. Some found more than that, the judge, in sentencing Barrett said - 'There can be no graver attack on the morals of this country than to establish a paper as you did for the purpose of allowing men and women to commit immorality.' This was Barrett's last published work - the hard labour to which he was sentenced perhaps sealing his fate. 300 grams.

Condition: Good. 1920. First Edition. 208 pages. No dust jacket. Red cloth covered boards with gilt. Black and white illustrations throughout by Louis Gunnis. Pages are heavily tanned and foxed throughout. Binding slightly loose. Minor pencil inscription to front pastedown. Boards have heavy shelf wear with bumping and fraying to corners and crushing, fraying and tearing to spine ends and edges. All surfaces tanned and sunned, particularly spine. Gilt lettering to spine is dulled but remains brighter on front. Boards are slightly bowed. Book has strong forward lean.
