This copy provides the most beautiful printing on vellum of recent years; Unique example with eighteen large sheets of decorative alphabets printed on vellum. It is here divided into three volumes, housed in a strong case by Glen Bartley, past-president of Designer Bookbinders. The normal edition, printed by Ian Mortimer (I.M. Imprint) in 1993, was in two volumes, limited to two hundred copies for sale, the second volume consisting of these large and wonderfully decorative alphabets in various sizes. However, the present set has, uniquely, a third volume, consisting of eighteen superb alphabet-sheets printed - in several brilliant colours - on vellum. This is 'Set A'. (Set B contained fifteen vellum sheets; set C had four vellum sheets. Three other sets had one vellum sheet, printed in black. ) The A, B, and C were printed only one copy each. The survival in perfect condition of these amazing alphabets, engraved on box-wood during the early nineteenth century, among the archives of the Monotype Corporation in mid-twentieth century, was an important event. They are printed here from the original box-wood blocks. In the large case which holds these three volumes, Volume 1 is in its original black cloth boards; volumes 2 and 3, the alphabets on paper and on vellum, have been bound in limp vellum. All three volumes are together in their large box of black cloth over boards, with gold-on-black title label.
