A collection of Thomas Walker's weekly periodicals containing No. I (May 20, 1835) to No. XXVI (November 11, 1835). Walk…er (1784-1836) was a police magistrate in England known for his work trying to combat poverty within his community. He began writing a weekly periodical in 1835 called "The Original," which covered a number of topics, but his "papers on health and gastronomy were the chief attraction of the work," according to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography. Pagination: iv, 408pp. Provenance: bookplate for John Orde Ommanney to the front paste down. Approximately 8 ½ inches tall (21.5cm). Condition Report Externally Spine - good condition - gilt titles to a black label, rubbed and worn. Joints - very good condition - sound, gently rubbed and worn. Corners - very good condition - gently bumped and worn. Boards - good condition - half leather with marbled paper covered boards, marked and worn. Page edges - good condition - top edges darkened, all red. Binding - good condition - attractive, rubbed and worn. See above and photos. Internally Hinges - very good condition - sound. Paste downs - good condition - plain paper covered. End papers - good condition - plain paper. Title - good condition - gently tanned. Pages - good condition - tanned with minor foxing and marks.
