First. xxvii, 448-xx, 552 with half titles and titles to both volumes, 14 figs of medals, 1 of the Battle of Waterloo, plan of Hugemont, view of Hugemont, complete as listed in the Embellishments page and executed by Mr Bragg, Three-quarter purple leather binding with gilt rulings to spine, marbled boards, buff eps. Leather scuffed and faded on spine and worn at corners, some fraying to head and tail of spine, boards faded. Short worm tracks affecting inner margins of plates but not the images. One loose plate offset and frayed at the edge. Armorial bookplate of Viscount Hood with motto "Ventis Secundis".

Mackinnon (1791-1836) was a particularly gallant officer, who had three horses shot under him at Waterloo. The first volume narrates the fascinating story of Moncksâ foundation of the Regiment, and its first battle honours in 1650 at Cromwellâs great victory over the Scots at Dunbar. It also narrates the Regimentâs proud part in the Anglo-Dutch wars of the 17th century and the 18th Century wars against Spain and France - including Marlboroughâs victory at Oudenarde; and the battle of Dettingen against France - the last battle at which a British monarch (George II) fought.
