8vo, pp. xxix, [4], 34-69, [1]; translator's note tipped in after p. 69; original printed tan wrappers, spine cracked, dampstain pervades most of the textblock at the bottom margin; all else very good. Wilhelm Bleek (1827-1875) was a German linguist who spent much time working on languages of Africa, editing vocabularies of east African languages, and helping to compile a Zulu grammar. His major opus was his Comparative Grammar of South African Languages (London 1862-69). Haeckel, who wrote the lengthy preface, was Bleek's cousin.
