Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Lacks the Oliver Twist portion of the material. Description of A Christmas Carol: frontis and three other full-page illustrations, 4 smaller black and white illustrations, 166p. plus 2p. publisher's adverts. Maroon leather, lettered and decorated in gilt. 17 cm. Quarterbound slipcase (red cloth backed in cover-matching maroon leather). AMS (rather than Yushodo) at base of backstrip. "A Christmas Carol" is nestled in an open cloth-covered box within a protective stiff folding and flapped red cloth-covered chemise with enough empty space to have also contained the missing facsimile Oliver Twist in ten parts. Backstrip faded on slipcase. Tiny scratch on front cover of book. The 1843 date in Roman numerals on the title-page is not reproduced in this facsimile and the half-title and verso of title-page are printed in black rather than blue. We didn't notice any other differences from the original first state of the first edition. The OCLC entry describes this 1977 production as limited to 600 copies but we found no such statement in this copy -- perhaps it was with the missing Oliver Twist material. At any rate, an appealing copy of "A Christmas Carol" in a fancy protective slipcase, etc.
