Hardback. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good -. First UK Edition. 1957. First UK edition. 150pp. Frederick Benjamin Gipson (1908-1973) was an American writer and screenwriter. He is probably known as the author of Old Yeller, which became a popular 1957 Walt Disney film. The book was first published in America in 1956, and is the story of a boy and his dog, living in the Texas hill country in the late 1860s, when life was hard and money was short: but there were pleasant moments too for this fourteen-year-old "man of the family" with his companion, "Old Yeller". The book is bound in the original blue paper covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with light bumping to the corners and a dent near the top corner of the rear board. The spine ends are more heavily bumped and there is fading to about 1/2" of the top and about 1/4" of the bottom of the spine. The spine is slightly cocked with some light dents near the middle. The rear board has two horizontal creases in the paper that appear to be the result of a publishing fault and not damage. The contents are tight and clean with some light foxing to the free endpapers and a small stain on pages 71 to 74. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some soiling, most noticeably to the back. The spine is faded and there is bumping to the bottom of the spine and up to about 1/2" is missing from the top of the spine. The corners are bumped and nicked and there is rubbing with light creasing along the top edge.
