Two separate works bound together in a contemporary binding. The second work being the first posthumous collection of the unpublished works by the author, published in London & printed by William Du-gard, for Laurence Sadler, 1650. Quarto (19 x 14.5cm). 'John Gregory was the miracle of his age for critical & curious learning. He attained to a learned elegance in English, Latin, and Greek, and to an exact skill in Hebrew, Syriac, Chaldee, Arabic, Ethiopic, &c. He was also well versed in philosophy, and had a curious faculty in astronomy, geometry and arithmetic, and a familiar acquaintance with the Jewish rabbines, ancient fathers, modern critics & commentators.'- Athenae Oxonienses. The second work divided into seven sections, of which the last six have their own title-pages, all dated 1649, Observations (first work) with upper corner torn with very slight loss to text.
