First Edition
Cont. Calf, Rebacked Neatly. Condition: Good. First Edition. Calf sides worn but neatly rebacked and recornered. Blind library stamp on title-page. The first few pages concerning the doctrine of proportion are heavily annoted by an early reader. Shortly after this book was published the author emigrated from Aberdeen to New York, where advertisements for his mathematical instruction appeared in contemporary newspapers (see Karpinski, pp. 8, 571,575). It is important to note that the practical application of mathematics to commercial affairs is an emphasis found in this book and in his New York advertisement ("Merchants book-keeping") reproduced in Karpinski, p. 575.
