Full-Leather. Condition: Fair. The New and Improved Practical Builder Volume 1 Carpentry, Joinery and Cabinet Making Being a New and Complete System of Lines for the Use of Workmen Founded on Accurate Geometric and Mechanical Principles with Their Application in Carpentry , - to Roofs, Domes, Centring etc; in Joinery, -to Stairs, Handrails, Soffits, Niches etc; in Cabinet Making to Furniture both Plain and Ornamental; fully and Clearly Explained. Full leather with blind tooled boards top of spine is split one inch on one side and 2.5 inches on the other. corners well worn. Hinges are a bit shaky. some foxing of plates, Margin of one plate creased with minor tears. seven plates have water staining. since the shape and size of these differ and adjacent pages are not affected I can only assume they were damaged before binding. there is a frontis engraving of Peter Nicholson (author?) engraved half title page, title page, xxxvi, Book 1 Carpentry pp 1 to 80 plus 42 full page plates, Book 2 Joinery pp 81 to 132 plus 41 full page plates, index to Book 1 and 2 pp133 to 140, Book 3 Cabinet-making pp 1 to 36 plus 6 full page plates . Checking plates has been a nightmare. Some have been bound in the wrong place. The plate listed as Timber Bridge across the Clyde (no XLI) is missing but there are 2 plates numbered XXIV the additional being the Roof of Kings College Chapel which we assume is a substitute. The contents page also lists a plate XXXVII - Centres (frontispiece) described. From reading the text it is clear that this refers to the engraved half title page.
