Octavo, original cream yellow glazed paper wrappers printed in green, few minor spots, bookplate of Nicholas Frederic Brady on verso of front wrapper has caused a light puckering of the wrapper, small gilt morocco bookplate of a bookseller below the Brady plate has slightly offset onto title, very nice, and preserved in a crimson quarter morocco gilt slip case with inner wraps. One of very few printed for the express purpose of securing the American copyright. Stewart 503; the very rare first edition.

First standalone edition of Kipling's poem, which was collected in Sea Warfare in Britain the same year. The poem is also known under the title "The Question". Livingstone 407; Stewart 403. Octavo, pp. 8. Original yellow wrappers, front cover printed in green, wire-stitched. Housed in custom green cloth chemise and slipcase. Bookplate of Henry C. Taylor (1873-1969), agricultural economist, inside chemise. Creasing to wrappers and contents, very good.
