Boards. Condition: Fair. Seventh edition. Seventh edition, revised and corrected. With an engraved frontispiece, 29 folding engraved plates some of which are loose but otherwise in very good condition, 12mo, pp viii, 312, untrimmed, some pages loose, boards worn, a very rough sheep (?) spine loosely attached. A curious copy, the boards are quite possibly contemporary; the pages are very wide-margined; it seems to have been destined for a proper binding, but this was never achieved. It remains a quite usable copy, charmingly unsophisticated. [The plates feature florists' flowers including one showing a bulb vase, garden plan, wine and apple presses etc.].

Davies + blank endpage + 20 fold-out plates (confusing plate numbering). Condition Fair, has glued on spine, but in 2 parts, Lacks front & rear covers. Contents mostly fair/good, clean & tight, but with some foxing throughout. So in 2 tight parts, endpage and Title page to page 166 and then page 167 to blank endpages. No author to title page but Noël Antoine Pluche, 1688-1761. This is a third edition revised and corrected. Size: 10 x 17cm Approx.

Full leather bindings with gilt titles to spines. General wear to exteriors as shown with marks and scuffs. Size: 16.8cm by 10cm. Bookplate of William Mitford to front pastedown of each volume. Pages with four frontispieces and a total of 118 plates, most of which are folding. Light age toning throughout, otherwise pages and plates are generally clean as shown. Full-Leather. Condition: Fair. Three volumes, 12mo, full calf but different bindings, rubbed, joints cracking and one of them rayther weak. Volume II, (1739), by D. Bellamy, with the title "Nature Delineated", engraved frontispiece, 20 engraved folding plates, one with a tear, pp (14), 362, vi, slight worming to the last few pages. [Devoted to garden design, the parterre and flowers, kitchen garden, fruit and pruning, herbs, agriculture, vines, woods.]. Volume III, (1739), engraved frontispiece, 27 engraved plates (two with tears), pp xviii, 366, (arable agriculture, rivers and fish, mountains, the sea and its wildlife, shipbuilding, the air, fossils and mining). Plus an un-numbered volume, Fifth edition, (1740), engraved frontispiece, 22 engraved plates (mostly folding), pp xviii, 323, (13), insects, birds, animals, fishes, botany.

Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Hardcover. Full leather, but both boards detached (and present). Leather, raised cords, on the spine. xxiv + 323 pages + index and advertisement for more books printed by C. Davis. Text block complete and in good shape, still tightly bound to the cords. Corners clean, very little foxing and fading. There are 25 find copperplate engravings, including new world species like the beaver, alligator, porcupine, and opossum. Most of the plates are folding plates, measuring 6.5 x 8 inches. Text is in English, translated out of the original French of Abbe Noel Pluche. The name John Miller signed on the top of the title page. This volume has the remains of a numeral '2' on the spine, though I see no mention on the inside that this is part of a set. Complete in itself and covering the subject of Insects and Birds, six further volumes were published at intervals. Small loss at head of the spine, upper hinge starting but stitching remains tight, bookplates of 18th century barristers, Humphrey Ambler and his son Charles, later smaller bookplate of Raymond Greene, the body of text clean and unmarked. Frontis, b&w copper plates, many of which are folding and all of which are clean and bright, Index at rear, xiii, v + 196 208 [ xiv].

The sixth edition of this work on natural history, translated from the original French by Mr Humphreys and bound in full calf with copper plates. The sixth edition, corrected.Bound in full calf.Illustrated with a monochrome frontispiece and twenty-four monochrome plates including many folding plates. Collated complete.This work features Mr Humphrey's study on natural history, intended for the 'minds of the youth' with sections on insects, plants, terrestrial animals and more. The work is accompanied by copper plates depicting a host of creatures. Bound in full calf. Externally worn with joints weak and boards held by cords only, marks to the boards, bumping and rubbing to the extremities and cracking to the spine with loss to the head and tail and to the head of the spine label. Front free endpaper disbound but present with a bookplate belonging to 'Edward Holden' to the front pastedown and offsetting to the extremities of the endpapers. Internally firmly bound with age toned pages and loss to the heads of the pages to pp. 313-315, an ink inscription to the front blank and the odd spot, closed tear and tidemark. Good Only. book.

Vol. I: 24/25 plates (Plate 16 apparently lacking). Vol. II: 35 plates incl. frontis. Vol. III: 32 plates + frontis. Vol. IV: 28 plates + frontis. Some light wear to boards. Light foxing and sporadic rust and ink staining to interior commensurate with age. A handsomely restored set.
