Lester del Rey wrote more of the Winston novels than any other single writer, sometimes under his own name and sometimes under a variety of pseudonyms. As you might expect, his performance was uneven. He would sometimes turn out an excellent book, sometimes a mediocre one. The Mysterious Planet (1953) was an early Winston published under the pseudonym of Kenneth Wright. It has since been reprinted in paperback using the del Rey byline. Not to keep you in suspense, the novel is an average performance for del Rey-- neither his best nor his worst. EB; 8vo 8" - 9" tall.

No previous owner marks - all pages are clean and crisp, endpapers decorated by Alex Schomburg but the ffep has a faint shadow from something that was laid in by the previous owner -- One of the famous Winston Science Fiction series for young adults. Kenneth Wright was one of the pseudonyms under which Lester del Rey wrote for this series. The SFWA awarded del Rey the title of Grand Master of Science Fiction in 1990 -- A very presentable copy in the scarce DJ despite the flaws noted.
