Hardback. Condition: Like New. Valerie Harper has a message for women of a certain age: "Work those laugh lines!" With the irreverence and wit that made her one of television's most beloved personalities, Harper (a.k.a. Rhoda Morgenstern) takes on those phony "fabulous at 50" books written by women whose skin is free of laugh lines and who wouldn't know a cellulite pocket if it bit them on the backside. With her trademark shoot-from-the-hip, call-'em-like-she-sees-'em style, she helps women celebrate, with humor and grace, what it means to be middle aged. Harper's essays explore the treacherous terrain women must travel -- from the tyrannies of fashion to the unmentionables of menopause. She tackles the most perplexing questions of the day: If you wear a size zero, do you exist? Would menopause be revered if it happened to men? Do calories count if you eat standing up? Are dressing rooms fitted with fun house mirrors? Today I Am a Ma'am is the perfect antidote to the youth obsession of our culture, offered by America's most reliable girlfriend. It is Humor Replacement Therapy for midlife women, a book you can pick up when ever you need a laugh or a reminder that midriff drift is not the end of the world.…

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Sometimes we forget and need to be reminded. of our shared humanity, of what is important in life and of how to see an experience in a new light. In 2012, Janet Archer retired from a 28 year career as an elementary school teacher. It was then that she began to explore and document her immediate world through the eyes of her training as a life coach and a yoga and mindfulness teacher. She began sending out these musings to a large group of clients, friends and family and got many letters in return thanking her, because her insights were helping them to see something in a clearer way, one that was bringing them a sense of peace and calm. Along the way, her mother got dementia and came to live close by to Janet and many of her musings became centered around living with a parent with dementia. Each of these musings brings the reader to a place of compassion and love for both the adult child and the parent who are both involved in this new world of living with dementia. Being inspired to continue, Janet wrote over 100 musings and then decided to put 28 of those musings into this collection: An Invitation to Pause: musings from a mindfulness teacher. Through her story telling and poetic prose, Janet Archer helps you shift from the rush of life to quietly contemplating its ups and downs. A book where you can open up and read at any spot, her compassionate reflections remind us that every obstacle we run into is worth a second look and most importantly a laugh. If you are looking for a read that is uplifting, comforting and inspirational, then accept the invitation to pause from this wise and witty mindfulness teacher. You won't regret it.…

Paperback. Condition: Good. Mending Children's Broken Hearts is a collection of the thoughts and experiences of Grace S. Wolff, a respected innovative pediatric cardiologist. The subject matter is daunting--Grace devoted her career to the care of severely ill children. Yet Grace's stories are shot through with an almost miraculous compassion. She trusted, and she teaches the reader to trust, that there is a thread of hope and wonder even in the worst misfortune. The book stands as a tribute to Grace, to preserve and share her conviction that patient care should be built from the recognition of each patient as an individual human being. It should be useful to patients, medical professionals, and caregivers, as a source of solace and wisdom. About the Author Armando I. Perez, Ph.D., husband of the late Grace S. Wolff, M.D., was born in Havana, Cuba. Soon after the Revolution, he immigrated with his family to Spain and from there to the United States. In his career he was an environmental engineer and urban planner, and served in numerous societies and committees--most notably as Chair of the Urban Planning and Development Division of the American Society of Civil Engineers, from which he received the Harland Bartholomew National Urban Planning Award. Before he retired, he was a vice president with the international consulting firm CDM Smith Inc. Dr. Perez spends his retirement playing the alto saxophone, learning French and Italian, and participating in book clubs and church activities. He divides the year between his home in Coral Gables, Florida, and his vacation cabin in the Adirondacks of New York. Perhaps the greatest challenge of his life was to provide care for his beloved Grace when she contracted ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Grace fought the disease as forcefully as she had toiled on behalf of her patients, but she succumbed in July 2015. He wrote this book in her honor. The author has arranged for his portion of the proceeds to be given to the Pediatric Cardiology Research Fund of the Medical College of Wisconsin, from which Grace graduated.…

Paperback. Condition: Good. Life is so precious yet unpredictable. No matter what education or background we come from, none of us knows how our lives will evolve. I never thought I would write poetry, but at fifty-five, I became a poet. The wisdom acquired through my life's experiences forms the prelude for my interest in writing these poems that reflect my life as the son of a priest, a Christian, a father, a husband, and a practicing lawyer. Some of my musings are inspired by being raised in a large and colorful Greek-American family. My observations about people, religion, nature, the world, love, and life are reflected in my writings. No matter who we are, we are shaped by our parents, our environment, our culture, and our upbringing. We all want the same comforts in life; and we all show our weaknesses and strengths through our passions, prejudices, and talents. I hope one or more of these poems speaks to you in some small way.…

Hardback. Condition: Good. A shockingly candid and raw autobiography from legendary anchorman, jazz flutist, and host of The Ron Burgundy Podcast, Ron Burgundy. From his humble beginnings in a desolate Iowa coal mining town, his years at Our Lady Queen of Chewbacca High School to his odds-defying climb to the dizzying heights of becoming America's most trusted and beloved television News Anchor, Ron Burgundy pulls no punches in Let Me Off at the Top In his very own words Burgundy reveals his most private thoughts, his triumphs and his disappointments. His life reads like an adventure story complete with knock-down fights, beautiful women and double-fisted excitement on every page. He has hunted jackalopes with Bobby Kennedy and Peter Lawford, had more than his share of his amorous exploits, and formed the greatest on-air team in the history of televised news. Along the way, he hobnobbed with people you wish you knew and some you honestly wish you didn't--celebrities, presidents, presidents' wives, celebrities' wives, dogs, and, of course Veronica Corningstone, the love of his life. Walter Cronkite, Barbra Streisand, Katie Couric, the list goes on. Who didn't Mr. Burgundy, or Ron as he is known to his friends, rub elbows with in the course of his colorful and often criminal life? This may well be the most thrilling book ever written, by a man of great physical, moral and spiritual strength and not surprisingly a great literary talent as well. This book deserves a real shot at a Pulitzer Prize. In fact if it doesn't win one then we will finally have proof that the Pulitzer is rigged. Ron Burgundy has taken the time to write a book. We owe it to him, as honest Americans, to read it.…
