What began as a peaceful celebration turned into a violent clash between members of IWW (Industrial Workers of the World), a radical labor union and veterans. Tensions between the two groups had been building due to the IWW's efforts to organize workers in the area and its perceived radicalism. The confrontation resulted in several deaths and led to the arrest of IWW leaders. The trial became a national issue, and seven jurors later declared the convicted men 'NOT GUILTY', claiming they had been wrongly convicted due to political bias.
