Ink owner stamp on front endpaper, a few light spots on spine and rear board, ink underlining and marginalia on 8 pages only. Binding tight and square. x, [2], 563 pp. The story of the life of Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of the C…hristian Science movement and the only American woman to establish a worldwide religion. Although controversy surrounded Mrs. Eddy's Christian Science movement over the issue of whether its origins were hers alone or actually existed in the teaching and practice of Phineas P. Quimby, she is still credited for using her strong organizational skills to have this healing message heard round the world. One of her last and greatest accomplishments was founding The Christian Science Monitor in 1908, a newspaper respected around the world for its editorial integrity and news insight.

Buch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - 'Mrs. Eddy' presents a thorough and compelling biographical examination of Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of the Christian Science movement. Written with historical precision, Edwin Franden Dakin explores the life of a woman who transformed from a frail, struggling individual into one of the most po…werful and influential religious leaders in American history. The narrative traces her early life, her search for health and meaning, and the eventual development of the spiritual philosophy that would lead to the publication of her seminal work and the establishment of a global church. The book delves into the complex character of Mrs. Eddy, highlighting her extraordinary willpower, her organizational genius, and the controversies that often surrounded her leadership. Dakin provides a detailed look at the growth of the Mother Church and the societal impact of her teachings on healing and the nature of reality. By situating her life within the broader religious and cultural currents of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, this work offers invaluable insight into the creation of a new religious tradition. 'Mrs. Eddy' remains an essential resource for understanding the history of religious innovation and the enduring legacy of a pioneering figure in American spirituality. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
