In 1915, Farran Zerbe (18711949) founded the Pacific Coast Numismatic Society in San Francisco. In the same year, he oversaw the official coin medal department of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition. Zerbe aslso served as president of the American Numismatic Association. Gold metallic ink illustrates the wrappers and ten American gold coins and tokens. Examples include the $50 Gold "California Slug" and the Brasher Doubloon, as well as privately issued or Territorial gold coins issued in Colorado and Utah.
