First edition of this excellent work which details the evolution of the shotgun, from flintlock to hammerless ejector, as well as Express Rifles, ball and shoguns, sporting bullets, shooting in Europe and Great Britain. Of particular interest are the chapters by Henry on the increase of women shooting and hunting, with specifications for women's shotguns, shotgun loads, and shape of grip. Mary Russell, Duchess of Bedford (1865-1937) was a noted ornithologist, hunter, one of the first Western women to study jujitsu, and later became noted aviator with record breaking flights to Karachi and Cape Town.
