First edition, probably a later issue binding. Comic linked stories set among the London working class, told in a rambling, bantering tone by the narrator, an educated writer. Lyons was a friend and biographer of Robert Blatchford, another writer and influential Socialist, and one of the founders of the Labour Party. In the later issue jacket with a 3/6 price on the spine (the book was originally issued at 6s; John Lane had a regular practice of binding up unsold copies at a lower price). Cloth fading at spine, as usual; cream jacket, with a design by Gepeto, tan at the spine, grubby, and chipped along the edges.
