Condition: Fine. First edition. 12mo; unpag, chapbook in marbled wrappers with printed foil label, saddle-stitched. Copy number 10 of a total edition of forty-four copies; those numbered 1-10, as here, bound in Austrian paper. One of Prokosch's famously scarce "Butterfly Books" that he printed himself on a handpress. This copy is additionally inscribed at the front: "For my dear friend Josephine, with lasting love & gratitude , Frederic Prokosch, Christmas1961." The recipient was wealthy New York socialite Josephine Crane, a co-founder of the Museum of Modern Art and hostess of a long-running literary salon in her Fifth Avenue apartment, where Prokosch was a frequent guest.
