Some one has whited out an owner''s signature. Bocskay the calligrapher was the imperial secretary to the Holy Roman Emperor when he penned the manuscript in 1561-62. He had assembled a vast selection of works on writing. Hoefnagel the miniaturist painter embellished his work for Emperor Rudolf II - creating ''the first extensive exploration of the relation of painting to writing''. This edition has scholarly commentaries and biographies of both artists. The J Paul Getty Museum acquired the original in 1986. Scarce edition.
