Cloth. Condition: Near Fine. None (illustrator). First edition. The first trade edition of the memoirs of T. E. Lawrence, presenting his time in the Royal Air Force in the 1920s. First trade edition of the work, published the same year as a limited edition of two-thousand copies.Bound in the publisher's original blue cloth, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. In 1924, Lawrence enlisted in the British Royal Air Force under the assumed name 3522087 Ross. Add to basketLeather Bound. 1st edition. pp. 206. 4to. Bound in blue buckram, with a gilt-lettered navy pigskin spine, top edge gilt, blue and white marbled endpapers; in a slipcase with titles to both large panels: showing overall rubbing and scuffing. With an introduction by his brother, A. W. Lawrence. Limited edition of 2000 copies, this one marked "Presentation". Previous owner has noted "Presentation copy, formerly Marshall Sisson's; I bought this book from Blackwell's. on 23 October 1985.": claim not verified, but certainly reasonable, as the named architect once built a house for A. W. Lawrence, and also corresponded with Liddell Hart, Lawrence's biographer. (Clements pp. 38-39). This is the first English edition (limited issue - see O'Brien A172), published at approximately the same time (February, 1955) as the first English unlimited edition, and contains the partially expurgated text (by which is meant that 'objectionable' words have been omitted from the text, leaving blank spaces - the words were restored in the 1973 definitive edition).

Leather. Condition: Fine. Not Stated (illustrator). First edition. An exceptional limited edition example of T. E. Lawrence's memoirs of his time enlisted in the Royal Air Force. A first edition, limited issue, with this copy being no. 150 of 2,000 copies produced. In the publisher's original slip case, with price intact.Lawrence's 'The Mint' is a memoir of his experiences as an enlisted man in the Royal Air Force; working from a notebook he kept while enlisted, Lawrence wrote of the daily lives of fellow servicemen and about his feelings towards the RAF. The book was published posthumously, edited by his brother Prof. A. W. Lawrence.Though noted as flawed by critics, this work is notable for its sharp observation and the insight it gives into Lawrence as a person, and for the censorship issues around its publication. With the bookplate of George Marten to the front pastedown. Slip case in very good condition indeed, with bumps to joints and light handling marks to boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. Fine. book.
