Though an effort has been made to bring the record of Arnold's letters to a reasonable degree of completeness, it is recognized that in a work of this sort finaility is not attainable and that any approximation to completeness needs the help of all holders, individual or institutional, of Arnold letters and of all students of Arnold and of his Victorian contemporaries and background. A Major purpose of this book, by its nature somewhat preliminary, is to bring out of hiding any letters that have so far eluded my search and to correct any errors that may still remain in [site of efforts to detect and eliminate them. 429 pp. ( We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. etc.).
