Hardcover. Condition: Good. T. B. Peterson, undated copies (circa 1875) in original, matching brown pebbled binding with distinctive gilt titling and border on spines. Light even wear at heads, heels and edges. Some silver fishing to rear and top edges of Marietta. Else good. Tiny dent in spine of Beppo. A compelling pair, utterly 19th century Italian escape from Victorian England, in novel form. Trollope married writer Theodosia Garrow. They resided at Villino Trollope in Florence. Their home was visited by travelling British intelligentsia, as well as by leading Italian nationalist figures. Their villa was considered the centre of the expatriate society in Florence. Theodosia was known for her poetry, her translations and her articles on household matters. She also contributed letters to the Athenaeum advocating freedom for Italy. Publisher's monogram embossed on front boards. Antique book plate of Joe. T. Cunningham Rochester, NY with library number. Tight binding, very good print and text. Sold as a pair. Not available for priority/expedited shipping. Due to the size/weight of this book extra charges may apply for international shipping.
