Contact seller5-star sellerHardback. Condition: Fair. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. First Edition. Bullett, Gerald. Marden Fee. London: William Heinemann Ltd, [1931]. First edition. Octavo, pp. [i-vi] vii-ix [x] [1-2] 3-347 [348-350: blank]. Original black cloth, front and spine panel stamped in gold. A fair, spine-leaned copy in tattered wraparound pictorial dust jacket (designed by Pindar Davis), on whose spine panel is a sticker stating, "Offered at 1/- net ex-libris" with the printed monogram "WHS" worked into the design, indicating this jacket came from a copy sold off by the large British lending library, W. H. Smith; the book itself bears no library markings, meaning the jacket was latter married to a another copy. #1557. $25. A three-part episodic novel set in the town in Sussex, the first part taking place in prehistoric times, the second in the 18th century, and the third in contemporary times. According to the publisher's blurb on the front dust jacket panel, "We share, for a few swift chapters, the desires and twilight fears of pre-civilised man; and with a more leisurely enjoyment, we ride a-wooing with the Squire, see murder done on a moonlit common, and overhear the village cronies gossiping in their inn parlour. These last provide our drama with an element of genial comedy that is in the true English tradition.".…
