Map
Original folding lithographed map of Hackney (56 x 44 cm), extracted from Rocque's original 1745 map of London and modified to reflect the district in the early 1800s. Extends from Stamford Hill in the north to Bethnal Green in the south, Dalston Kingsland in the east and Hackney Marshes in the west. Embellished with decorative border and compass rose, parks shaded in green, original outline colour. Lithographed by Dean & Munday, Threadneedle Street. Tear to upper right portion with tape repairs to verso, generally a very good copy. A scarce map which also appears in copies of William Robinson, The History and Antiquities of the Parish of Hackney (London, 1842). (Hyde and Morris, 172).
