No Binding. Condition: Fair. S. J. Neele. Map of Lower Egypt. 1818. *** This map is a copper plate engraving with later outline hand coloring. It was published in England in 1818 by Longmans & Rees, and Richard Phillips. The cartographic information comes largely from explorations and surveys taken during Napoleon's occupation of Egypt. The map appeared in a work by Vivant Denon titled "Travels in Upper and Lower Egypt, With Campaigns of General Bonaparte," first published in 1803. Lots of nice details on this map, showing ruins, villages, towns, cities, wells, roads, etc. Note the inset table with astronomical locations for major landmarks and a note explaining where the measurements came from. *** Crisp, generally clean impression. Several vertical folds as issued, one fold with a narrow gap at top (1" long). Left fold is reinforced on verso for entire length with archival tape. Right margin is close-cropped almost to outer neat line with a small chip in upper right corner. The margin has been repaired and stabilized on verso with archival materials. Some minor rippling along top of image and tiny closed tears on some edges (repaired on blank verso with archival tape), a small chip on edge of top margin repaired on verso. *** Sheet is 10.5 inches high by 16 inches. Image is approx. 9.75 inches tall by 15.5 inches.
