Seller: JDBFamily, Chico, CA, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. "This 5.875 x 8.5 inch, 411 page hardcover book is the stated first edition of this title as indicated by the 1953 date on the title page and the statement "First Edition" on the copyright page. This copy is in at least near fine condition with the textured blue cloth covers showing just a touch of wear at the corners and - - with the gilt image on front panel and silver lettering and design on the spine - - bright and clean. The interior text block shows no signs of wear, writing, or damage and all in all this book is in very nice condition but lacks the dust wrapper. This book was written at mid-twentieth century as the story of a creation for planet Earth and for its people was taking new shape. As quoted on the front endpaper - - "The Universe is not to be narrowed down to the limits of understanding which has been man's practice up to now, but the understanding must be stretched and enlarged to take in the image of the universe as it is discovered." This book traces the accumulation of knowledge and understanding over a long stretch of time and is highlighted by a number of black-and-white photos and diagrams as well as black-and-white graphics and maps. 411 pages.".
