The 1959-60 Broadway production was directed by Dore Schary and ran for 3 previews and 556 performances, with Gertrude Berg, Cedric Hardwicke, and Ina Balin. Gertrude Berg won a Tony Award for Best Actress. In 1961 Spigelgass adapted his play for a Warner Bros. film starring Rosalind Russell and Alec Guinness and directed by Mervyn LeRoy. The film won a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture--Musical/Comedy and Rosalind Russell won for Best Motion Picture Actress--Musical/Comedy. Contains stills from the play.
