Bookplate of noted collector Rolland Comstock on front paste-down. Head and tail of spine and bottom front corner are bumped, sticker from previous bookseller on front paste-down near tail, head-edge of boards is lightly faded. Price clipped. Hardcover first edition - First US printing. An entertaining novel - but one which is also a critique of modern society - one reviewer called it "Dickensian. not only in the sense that it has a strong sense of social purpose but because the author is showing a wonderful skill in creating a whole range of brilliantly realized characters." Dust jacket praise from Jonathan Raban and Michael Moorcock, among others. 415 pp. Near fine in near fine dust jacket.

hardback in protected dustjacket, 415pp, both in very good condition, slight dustjacket wear at top of spine. Young's no 4170*. Angus Wilson's two main characters are Hamo Langmuir and Alexander Grant, his god-daughter. Hamo is obsessed by the search for sexual perfection in young men, unencumbered by romantic overtones. For Alexander, the search for fulfilment leads through the magic of sexual tripling to a hippie colony on the Moroccan coast. It also abounds in scenes of high comedy and humourously observed characters. There is Hamo's disastrous participation in a pederastic orgy in the Borneo Jungle, his fantastic pursuit of the houseboy employed in Colombo.
