Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. This is a stunning antique map of New Brunswick.  The original version of MacMillan's Map of New Brunswick was published in 1867, while this is a later version, updated by Henry F. Perley (1831-1897).  No indication of publisher or date is given on the map itself, however Perley is identified as "C.E.", presumably indicating that he was Chief Engineer at the time when he worked on the map.  He was chief engineer in the Maritimes from 1879 until his retirement in 1891, so the map's publication may be tentatively dated to sometime between those dates. Perley was a Canadian surveyor and engineer, and attended the Kings College of Engineering, which is now the University of New Brunswick.  Amongst other contributions, he worked on the Grand Trunk Railway and also designed the dry dock in Kingston, ON. This beautiful map measures 39.5 inches by 36.25 inches when unfolded.  The map itself is printed on rectangles of paper attacked to a thick, linen backing.  The colours of the map remain vibrant.  There is one small mark in orange pencil of some kind, as pictured.  There are also small areas of pulling on the back of the linen, but no actual damage.  It remains thick and robust, with only some understandable age-related discolouration, which is mild. When folded, the map is bound between hardcover, blue fabric-covered boards.  These measure 5.5 inches, by 7.75 inches by 1 inch high.  There is staining to the fabric, particularly on the front cover, and the fabric on the back seems to have faded, as it is a lighter blue than that on the front and spine.  There is some wear to the fabric, particularly at the corners and at the bottom and top of the spine.  At one point there was a tie or clasp of some kind to hold the front and back cover together, but this has torn off, with only small remnants left attached on the front and back cover.
