Front hinge tight, back hinge has a bit of give and noise to it when pressure is applied, but overall robust and firm for normal use. Binding sound and in good condition, but some widening in gutters in a few spots,with mesh visible (but no cracking or seperating). Pages lightly toned around edges. Light foxing around gutter of title page. Small rip on top of page near gutter on first few pages. Previous owner book plate on front paste-down. Fore edge of text block roughly trimmed, so some pages have some minor fore edge damage. Fabric on hardcover boards sunned along edges and spine. Fabric beginning to fray a bit at top/bottom of spine. Hardcover board corners bumped and curled inwards. A few white stains on fabric.…

Strip of fading along the top edge of the front board. Gilt on spine faded. Text block cracked several times, but still firm. With Woodcuts by Hendrik Glintenkamp. Glintenkamp (1887-1946) is primarily remembered for his anti-war illustrations that appeared in The Masses and other publications in the early 1900s. Inscribed by journalist, author, and lecturer Silas Bent (1882-1945), in the year of publication, on the half title: "For____, / My most inspiring / teacher, / Silas Bent / March 17, 1930." Bent worked as a tabloid newspaper reporter before turning to media criticism. He predicted that the evening edition newspaper would eventually be killed by the evening TV news.…
