First Edition
First edition of a history of the regency in France during the minority of Louis XV, charting all the political and financial upheavals of the duc d'Orléans regency, with much information on John Law and his system between 1715 and 1723. It was published simultaneously at The Hague. Stourm, "Bibliographie historique des finances de la France au XVIIIe siècle", p. 67. 3 vols, duodecimo (164 x 95 mm). 17 engraved plates, including frontispiece, of which 4 folding, title pages printed in red and black and with engraved vignette, decorative woodcut head-pieces and culs-de-lampe. Contemporary speckled calf, titles in gilt to light brown calf spine labels, compartments richly gilt, marbled pastedowns, red speckled edges. Early ink and pencil shelf marks, blue shelf-mark labels to foot of spines. Rubbed, occasional minute reinforcement, the bindings otherwise remarkably firm and unfaded, traces of removed covers to pastedowns, a few short tears to folding plates repaired, else internally fresh and unmarked. A very good set indeed.
