Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. This copy is in fine condition bound in black cloth covered boards with bright gilt titling to the spine. This copy is bright, tight, white and square. The unclipped dust wrapper is in near fine condition. International postal rates are calculated on a book weighing 1 Kilo, in cases where the book weighs more than 1 Kilo increased postal rates will be quoted, where the book weighs less then postage will be reduced accordingly. This copy is from the library of George Darley DSO Officer Commanding RAF 609 Squadron 1940 Northolt & Middle Walllop and has some pencilled marginalia (not entirely uncritical of some of the references in the book). Squadron 609 were involved in attacks on Luftwaffe II/KG 55 Heinkel III who were bombing the Bristol Aeroplane Factory airfield at Filton Bristol. This is an excellent account of the big daylight raid on Filton nr Bristol in 1940, with details of the aircraft units and crews from both sides. Indeed I would suggest this as an idealised account of an action that would be difficult to write today as it includes interviews with some of the crews. Highly recommended. Ref UU 5.

1st edition dust jacket Nice Copy octavo 223pp., b/w plates, maps, appends., index, On September 25th 1940 a huge force of Heinkel and Messerschmitt aircraft successfully penetrated British defences and executed a devastating attack on the factory complex of the Bristol Aeroplane Company at Filton near Bristol. Two days later another attack on the Bristol area was routed over Filton by the Spitfire and Hurricane pilots of four fighter squadrons. This was a complete disaster for the Luftwaffe. This detailed analysis and reconstruction of the raids settles many of the controversies that have surrounded them. Drawing on hitherto unused German sources and profusely illustrated with many previously unpublished photographs.
