Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Very Good- dj. Fireside BCE. [nice clean copy, minimal shelfwear only; the jacket is edgeworn (most heavily along the spine), with tiny bits of paper loss at the spine ends and outer corners, and a very small chip at the top edge of the rear panel]. (B&W photographs) Musical comedy about shop workers who dislike each other in person but fall in love through their pen-pal correspondence, derived from the same play ("Parfumerie" by Miklós László) which was the source for Ernst Lubitsch's lovely 1940 film THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER. The frontispiece caricature drawing of the original Broadway cast (including Barbara Cook, Daniel Massey, Barbara Baxley, and Jack Cassidy) is by Al Hirschfeld. The original production ran for 301 performances between April 1963 and January 1964, and has been revived several times since, most notably in 2016. Illustrated by (frontispiece drawing) Al Hirschfeld (illustrator). …

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Hardback with Dust Jacket. 8vo, 1st edition, pp. 121. Features an illustrated frontispiece by Al Hirschfeld, and eight photographs from the stage production. Publisher's original red cloth with white lettering to spine. Dust Jacket is price clipped. It is creased along the lower rim of the front cover, and there is also some loss. Loss towards the top and bottom spine. Soiling to rear cover. Some colour from the Dust Jacket has bled onto the underside of the Dust Jacket and there are some tape marks present. Restoration work has been carried out on the front cover over the faces of Daniel Massey and Barbara Cook. Therefore we have downgraded the listing of the Jacket to Good, the hardback itself is Very Good, with minor signs of shelf wear to top and lower spine. Name and address of former owner has been scratched out on ffep. Signed and Dedicated by lyricist Sheldon Harnick "For Mike, I echo all the other comments. Sheldon Harnick. 9/20/04"; Author of the of the libretto in a book form, Masteroff " For Mike Martin - without whom.Joe Masteroff"; the first actor to portray Amalia Balash, Barbara Cook " Dear, Dear Mike. She loves YOU! All good things - Barbara Cook. 8/5/88"; and the first actor to portray Georg Nowack, Daniel Massey. "Dear Mike - what a friend you are - for Barbara, to all of us - many, many thanks. Daniel Massey." Unlike the smash-hit Fiddler on the roof or the Pulitzer winning Fiorello, "She loves me" still retains a special place in the hearts of many fans. It had a relatively short run on Broadway, and a film project was never realised - a cause of some sadness to Harnick and Masteroff. However, some songs have remained in the canon "Dear Friend" (recorded famously by Julie Andrews, appearing in the soundtrack of a more recent film "You've got mail", starring Meg Ryan. This film has possibly been inspired by the musical) Scarce. Whilst it is difficult to establish the relationship between the dedicatee and the various personalities, it suggests a relationship of some personal (if not professional)capacity. In any event, it suggests a real camaraderie between the many forces that came together to create this endearing musical. Signed by Author(s).…

Contact seller5-star sellerOriginal 127 page screenplay for an unproduced film of the acclaimed Broadway musical written by the original creator of the musical play. Masteroff was previously librettist for Cabaret and Harnack and Bock wrote the songs for Fiddler On the Roof. This copy belonged to actor Jerry Orbach and has some ink circlings in his hand in the text. In 1970, a film production was in full swing to star Jerry Orbach and Julie Andrews. The film would have been OrbachÕs first feature film and his agent was concerned about Orbach being typescript as he was already a Broadway musical star. Orbach eventually backed out, then the production lost momentum trying to find a replacement for him and was eventually canceled (See John Anthony GilveyÕs Jerry Orbach - Prince of the City, page 53). Very good in somewhat worn and used Studio Duplicating Service light blue leatherette covers. Letter of provenance included. Jerry Orbach (1935-2004) is best remembered for the seen everything New York City police detective, Lennie Briscoe, on the long running television series, Law & Order. However, he was originally a major Broadway star in shows like The Fantasticks, Promises, Promises, Chicago, 42nd Street, etc. Orbach became successful in films as well appearing in Prince of the City, Dirty Dancing, Woody AllenÕs Crimes and Misdemeanors, Mr. Saturday Night, and voiced the role of the Candlestick in Walt DisneyÕs acclaimed animated feature, Beauty and the Beast. Greatly admired and beloved by his colleagues, Jerry Orbach has had a street in the Broadway area, and a New York City theater named in his honor.…
