He was married to Hedwig Meischneider; the couple had a son, Franz, born in 1919, and divorced later. He then married Almeda Redman, a social worke…r. Ernst Jolowicz was an outspoken opponent of the Nazi movement and was forced to flee Germany after Adolf Hitler came to power. He continued his anti-Nazi activities with a series of radio broadcasts in Strasburg from 1936 through 1939. In 1941, he immigrated to the USA, where he first served as a school psychiatrist in Warwick, NY, before setting up a private practice in Manhattan. He also published several books and professional articles. He died of a heart attack in 1958 Kathy Jolowicz, Leo Baeck Institute Archives.
