Six-Guns 68 states that it was first printed in 1875 in St. Louis by John T. Appler, Publisher and Proprietor. "this book served as the fountainhead for many later and less accurate volumes." Rader 160, One-Fifty 2, "This is the first book dealing with the James gang, and was published during their activities.".
