About the book >.>.> Leonard McComb: Drawings, Paintings, Sculpture is a comprehensive exploration of the works of artist Leonard McComb, whose contemplative and meditative qualities stand out in a contemporary art scene marked by dramatic change. This collection showcases McComb?s drawings and watercolours, featuring figures and seascapes that delve deeper than mere surface visuals. With a focus on the direct experience of nature, McComb's work exemplifies a long-standing pictorial tradition that marries observation with spirituality, revealing both structure and substance in his art.The text reflects on the artist's path, noting how it has led to a degree of isolation. Prior to this exhibition, there had been no extensive presentation of McComb?s oeuvre, apart from a small solo show at the Coracle Press Gallery. This lack of visibility can be attributed to McComb?s stringent standards, as he consistently destroyed earlier works up until 1975. For a significant period, he dedicated himself to teaching art, significantly influencing many students while simultaneously consuming much of his creative energy. Since transitioning to a more focused practice in 1977, McComb has created larger works that maintain the immediacy of his original techniques while drawing closer to the essence of nature.Bringing this exhibition to fruition involved collaboration with numerous individuals, including lenders, researchers, and photographers. These contributions reflect the commitment to presenting McComb?s work with the same care that characterises his artistic practice, allowing viewers to appreciate a selection of his most recent and impactful creations.
