Ivy, the legendary University of Chicago professor and authority in anatomy (83 publications, including the acclaimed text The Carcinogenicity of Fat "Browned" by Heating - the bookplate bears his motto and the artist initials "MD"). This copy also stood in the famed John Crerar Library of Science, and has a small neat "Withdrawn from Crerar Library" stamp on the endpaper. Introduction by William B. Cannon. After his classic work on the digestive system which won him the Nobel Prize in 1904, Pavlov planned his epoch-making experiments on salivary and gastric secretion by means of a gastric fistula. These experiments and other investigations on higher nervous activity over the next thirty-five years have had a profound impact on physiology as well as psychology. Garrison-Morton assigns priority to the International Publishers Edition, and does not list the Liveright imprint. This is the first of the Liveright imprint, published just a few months after the International Publisher's imprint. Pavlov is remembered as one of the greatest physiologists and psychologists to ever have conducted research. His famous experiments resulted in the "Pavlovian Response" among other advances, in digestive science especially. A small address label on the front pastedown; jacket shows fading and a few traces of edge wear, including a small abrasion to the rear flap.
