Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the life and work of Spanish painter, Jusepe de Ribera, widely known as "Lo Spagnoletto." An examination of Ribera's career traces his artistic development from his beginnings as a Tenebrist painter in the studio of Francisco Ribalta, to his emergence as a master of chiaroscuro and a leading figure in the Neapolitan Baroque movement. Blending Ribera's story with analyses of his paintings, drawings and etchings, the author reveals Ribera's skillful use of light and shadow, and his adeptness in capturing dramatic and emotional intensity. Through the examination of Ribera's religious works, portraits, and genre scenes, this book sheds new light on the artist's unique approach to capturing the human experience and the spiritual world, making it an indispensable resource for art historians and enthusiasts alike.
