Publishers card laid in as this was most likely a review or gift copy. Near fine in a very good jacket. There is a rust stain on the page the card was attached to. The clip has been removed… and left a ghost. Else a lovely copy of the author's extremely scarce first book. Ende would later publish The Neverending Story. This earlier children's book was based in part on the author's experiences in WW2 Europe. Maurice S. Dodd (illustrator).

Translated by Renata Symonds. Pages have slight foxing, tanning and minor thumbing. Slight…gutter cracking. Binding is firm. Foxing and tanning more noticeable towards start and end of book and on text block edges. Faint pencil inscriptions to FEP, mostly erased. Mild creasing to last few pages. Boards have some moderate edge wear, with slight bumping to corners and minor bumping to spine ends. Notable sunning to edges and spine ends. Book has a moderate forward lean. Unclipped jacket has light edgewear with small tears, mild chips, and creasing. Approx 2 inch tear to rear panel. Jacket is a touch rubbed and marked overall; mild foxing too. Slight droplets to front panel and spine. Translator credit slip almost torn in 2 but remains attached.
