Index of Eighty-third Critical Bibliography This is the official quarterly journal of the History of Science Society. This issue contains an article by Thomas Kuhn! From Wikipedia "Thomas Samuel Kuhn ( / ku n/; July 18, 1922 June 17, 1996) was an American physicist and philosopher who wrote extensively on the history of science and developed several important notions in the sociology and philosophy of science. Kuhn has made several notable claims concerning the progress of knowledge: that science undergoes periodic "paradigm shifts" instead of progressing in a linear and continuous way; that these paradigm shifts open up new approaches to understanding that scientists would never have considered valid before; and that scientists can never divorce their subjective perspective from their work. Competing paradigms are frequently incommensurable; that is, they are competing accounts of reality which cannot be coherently reconciled. Thus, our comprehension of science can never rely on full "objectivity"; we must account for subjective perspectives as well. His best known book is The Structure of Scientific Revolutions (1962)." Isis George Sarton founded Isis, the premier international journal dedicated to the history of science, in Belgium in 1912. After World War I, Sarton and the journal moved to the United States. Today, Isis is edited by Bernard Lightman at York University, and published and distributed quarterly by the University of Chicago Press. Each issue begins with topical articles providing in-depth coverage of leading issues in the history of science. News of the Profession and an Essay Review follow. Issues conclude with an extensive collection of book reviews, covering all fields and time periods in the history of science. This issued includes the Eighty-third Critical Bibliography of the History of Sciences and Its Cultural Influences. Good. No dust jacket as issued. Cover has some wear and soiling.
