The second and final issue of "C Comics", Joe Brainard's celebrated comic-poetry offshoot of Ted Berrigan's "C: A Journal of Poetry", in its original printed state. Conceived within the immediate orbit of the New York School, the issue assembles texts by John Ashbery, Bill Berkson, Ted Berrigan, Joe Brainard, Kenward Elmslie, Dick Gallup, Barbara Guest, Kenneth Koch, Frank Lima, Frank O'Hara, Ron Padgett, Peter Schjeldahl, Jimmy Schuyler, and Tony Towle, with covers and drawings by Brainard; the publication turns collaborative poetry into a deliberately unstable comic form. - The work helped define a moment in which mimeograph culture, little-magazine experimentation, and artist's book practice converged. Its refusal of conventional narrative and its hybridization of poem, gag, advertisement, and visual sequence place it among the most distinctive New York School productions of the mid-1960s.
