Hij was onderwijzer van de dauphin van Frankrijk en later ook bisschop, onder meer van Avranches. Hij staat op een lijn met Fenelon en Bossuet. Een deel van zijn boeken verscheen in de Nederlanden. Het hier aangeboden werk heeft een voorrede van de drukker, drempelverzen van P. Mambrunus, A. Garabius en A. Hallaeus. Het tweede werk in deze band, 'Liber de Origine Fabularum Romanensium', met eigen paginering en titelpagina met het jaartal 1682, heeft een opdracht aan Huet van Gulielmus Pyrrho (d.d. 1679).
