First Edition
Cloth. Condition: Very Good +. Dust Jacket Condition: Good -. Louis Dominguez (illustrator). First Edition. Incredible!(An Astounding Gallery of Extraordinary People, Unique Structures, Exotic Plants, Unusual Animals, and Unbelievable Events in History) by Kevin McFarland was published by Hart Publishing Company, Inc., in 1976. Not an ex-library copy, this 400-page, 8 1/4" X 10 3/4", believed-to-be First Edition offering is in VG+/G- condition. The book itself is, for its 36 years, in still very nice physical shape, firm and sound. Its dust jacket, however, is in just G- condition, due, no doubt, to its having done such an admirable job over time of protecting and preserving the book within its covers. There is noticeable shelf wear at top and bottom edges of jacket's spine, in 1-2 random spots at top/bottom edges of back cover section, and at four top points where front/back inside jacket flaps actually make their inward folds. I clear taped in 3-4 random places to shore up/keep from worsening smallish tears. From front inside flap, "Did you know that President James Garfield could write in two languages at the same time--one with each hand? That a two-day-old gazelle can outrun a full-grown racehorse? That the Hindu temple of Madura, India, is ornamented with 30 million idols? That a desert growth called the resurrection plant moves in search of water? In this compelling giant of a book, [the author] tells the world's most incredible yet true stories, which Luis Dominguez complements with his fabulous illustrations. Here are the most unusual individuals.most astounding creatures.most incredible man-made marvels.most fascinating plant specimens. [amazing] physical feats." As amazing as the over 300 entertaining stories presented in this offering are to read, THE REAL STARS are probably the over 180 charming, black and white sketches of Dominguez, in my humble opinion, Reader. Just a few of the titles/subjects offered include "Edgerton Won a Professional Fight at Age 63", "Huey Long Made the Longest Speech in History", "Lemmings Commit Suicide by the Millions", and "The Purandhar Gate Is Built on a Foundation of Solid Gold". Obviously very much in the same vein as Ripley's Believe It or Not anecdotes, this volume will entertain readers young and old for countless hours if given the opportunity! Thank you!!
